About Dr. Schäfer DC

Dr. Tamaryn Schäfer was born and raised in Johannesburg. After graduating from the University of Johannesburg in 2019, Tamaryn immigrated to the United Kingdom where she has spent the last 6 years practicing in London and Chichester. Alongside working with her patients, she dedicated many hours attending seminars, workshops and conferences to keep her knowledge and skills up to date to provide the best quality care she can. Dr. Schäfer and her family have now relocated to Somerset West, Western Cape where she began her own practice, Schäfer Chiropractic and Associates.

Dr. Schäfer loves to help her patients in all aspects of health. Her background is very family-orientated, and that is why she loves to practice Chiropractic, from babies to the geriatric, from the athlete to the stay-at-home mom and the mom’s to be. The techniques Dr Schäfer uses are Diversified technique and Motion Specific Technique.

These techniques are specific to restoring motion in dysfunctional spinal joints which have occurred through trauma, repetitive strain and biomechanical dysfunction. Restoring proper motion in areas of greatest stress in the spine encourages the bodies’ natural ability to heal by removing interference from the nervous system.

Dr. Schäfer believes health is a journey, and it takes only one small change today to get better tomorrow. The bodies’ ability to move is not a given, it is a privilege that must be maintained consistently throughout life. Dr. Schäfer has a mission to help as many people as possible in her community and educate along the way about whole being and what actual health care should be about.

Dr. Schäfer DC Chiropractic Techniques

Motion Specific Technique

Motion Specific Technique is a technique honed by Dr. Tim Young, a world-renowned leader in Chiropractic. Tamaryn has trained under Dr. Young, mastering this technique to offer the most specific adjustment possible. Motion Specific Technique initially focuses on the assessment of your spine, locating the areas of most stress and restriction, then returning natural motion through specific spinal adjustments. This technique may include ‘cracking’ and ‘popping’ of your spinal joints, as the restrictions are released. This is Tamaryn’s commonly used technique for most patient presentations.

Diversified Technique

This technique looks to remove restrictions between the joints of the spine by performing gentle pulls, pushes, and twists to the spine, helping to remove adhesions from between the spinal joints.  These types of adjustments can cause some mild clicking or popping of your joints, which is a perfectly natural process.

X-Ray Assessment

Dr Schafer has completed extensive training in the interpretation and assessment of X-rays and regularly reviews spinal X-rays as part of her clinical practice. When clinically appropriate, X-ray imaging can provide valuable information that cannot always be obtained from a physical examination alone.

At Schäfer Chiropractic and Associates, we have modern digital X-ray imaging facilities available onsite to assist with accurate assessment and safe, evidence-informed care.
