About Dr. Schäfer DC

Dr. Tamaryn Schäfer was born and raised in Johannesburg. After graduating from the University of Johannesburg in 2019, Tamaryn immigrated to the United Kingdom where she has spent the last 6 years practicing in London and Chichester. Alongside working with her patients, she dedicated many hours attending seminars, workshops and conferences to keep her knowledge and skills up to date to provide the best quality care she can. Dr. Schäfer and her family have now relocated to Somerset West, Western Cape where she began her own practice, Schäfer Chiropractic and Associates.
Dr. Schäfer loves to help her patients in all aspects of health. Her background is very family-orientated, and that is why she loves to practice Chiropractic, from babies to the geriatric, from the athlete to the stay-at-home mom and the mom’s to be. The techniques Dr Schäfer uses are Diversified technique and Motion Specific Technique.
These techniques are specific to restoring motion in dysfunctional spinal joints which have occurred through trauma, repetitive strain and biomechanical dysfunction. Restoring proper motion in areas of greatest stress in the spine encourages the bodies’ natural ability to heal by removing interference from the nervous system.
Dr. Schäfer believes health is a journey, and it takes only one small change today to get better tomorrow. The bodies’ ability to move is not a given, it is a privilege that must be maintained consistently throughout life. Dr. Schäfer has a mission to help as many people as possible in her community and educate along the way about whole being and what actual health care should be about.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your first appointment is primarily an assessment. Your chiropractor will take a detailed history, discuss your concerns and goals, and perform an appropriate physical examination. Depending on your presentation, this may include orthopaedic, neurological, functional and chiropractic assessment procedures. The purpose is to understand your presentation and determine the most appropriate next step.
This depends on your individual presentation.
Where clinically appropriate, an adjustment or other manual procedure may be performed as part of the initial assessment process. This is not automatically performed on every patient, and you will have an opportunity to discuss the proposed procedure and give consent before it is performed.
Your chiropractor will discuss the findings from your initial assessment and any relevant investigations. The clinical findings, what they mean in relation to your symptoms and how your body is functioning will be explained as well as what management options may be appropriate. If ongoing chiropractic care is recommended, the proposed frequency and expected duration of care will be discussed with you. You then decide whether you wish to proceed.
