If this is your first visit or if it’s been some time since your last chiropractic session your appointment will begin with time set aside to get to know you properly.
This includes:
- A relaxed discussion about your health concerns and goals
- A detailed health history, including previous injuries, current medication, and relevant medical conditions
- An assessment to better understand how your body is functioning and how chiropractic care may support you
From there, care is tailored specifically to your needs, ensuring a thoughtful, personalised approach rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Chiropractic is a healthcare approach that works on the nervous system, improving how your brain and body communicate, reducing the physiological stress load your system is carrying, and building the adaptive capacity that lets you stay well.
Your chiropractor will assess the spine, identify areas of stress, restriction, or irritation, and create a personalised care plan to restore normal function.
When the spine isn’t moving or balancing correctly, it can place extra strain on muscles, joints, and nerves. This can lead to symptoms such as:
- Pain or stiffness
- Muscle tension or weakness
- Pins & needles or numbness
- Reduced mobility and function
Chiropractic combines science and holistic care to help your body function at its best. Specific and targeted adjustments can improve spinal health, posture, flexibility, and overall wellbeing. Many people also use chiropractic care to support sports performance and injury prevention.
Chiropractic care is suitable for people of all ages and lifestyles:
- Families: babies, children, adults, and seniors
- Office workers: posture and movement support
- Athletes: enhanced performance, recovery, and injury prevention
- Anyone seeking better mobility, pain relief, or general wellness
Some patients visit initially for back pain, neck pain, headaches, or arthritis, but many continue with regular care because it helps them feel better, move easier, and function to their best potential.
Your nervous system controls every movement and process in your body. Spinal misalignments can interfere with these signals, potentially causing pain, tingling, numbness, or reduced function.
Unlike painkillers, which mask symptoms, chiropractic care aims to address the underlying cause leading to less interference and better functioning. To do this, we:
- Take a full health history
- Perform a physical assessment, this can include neurological, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal screening, evaluate posture, range of motion, and gait.
- Use digital X-Ray facilities on-site if needed
- Refer to your GP for further tests if necessary
Your chiropractor then uses safe and effective adjustments to restore spinal function and support your body’s natural healing processes.
A typical care plan may include:
- Targeted spinal adjustments
- Exercises and stretches to strengthen and support your spine
- Posture, lifestyle, and movement advice to prevent recurrence
Chiropractic care is personalised, evidence-based, and focused on helping your body adapt to daily stresses even on the hard days.
New & Returning Patients
Whether this is your first visit or you’re returning after a break, we take the time to get a full view of your health and history so we can provide the best possible care.
Before Your Appointment
To make your first visit as smooth as possible, please complete our Online Intake Form or bring the following information to your appointment:
- Current medications and dosages
- Diagnosed conditions (with dates)
- Past operations or medical procedures (with dates)
Completing the form ahead of time allows your chiropractor to review your details before your visit, but don’t worry — if you can’t complete it online, we’ll go through everything together at your appointment.
First Appointment – Initial Consultation
Your chiropractic journey begins with a consultation and examination.
- Health Questionnaire: We’ll send you an online form to give your chiropractor a clear picture of your health and symptoms.
- Discussion: On the day, we’ll talk about your symptoms, how they started, previous treatments, what makes them better or worse as well as your goals we will work towards.
- Physical Examination: Your chiropractor will assess your spine, joints, and muscles, checking for tension, inflammation, or restricted movement. Neurological and functional tests may also be performed.
- X-Rays (if needed): We have state-of-the-art digital X-Ray facilities on-site. X-rays help us detect injuries, arthritis, scoliosis, or other conditions that may affect your care.
After this assessment, your chiropractor may perform a gentle first adjustment to see how your spine responds. This is considered part of the examination.
Following your New Patient Appointment, your Chiropractor will spend time studying their notes and findings from your appointment. This will include studying your new patient intake form, primary complaint form (which includes information about all of your symptoms and reason for visiting us), all of their notes from your consultation, the findings of your physical examination, and if you have needed X-Rays, they will need to study these in detail. If you have had X-Rays, if necessary, the images will be sent to a Medical Radiologist for a second opinion to ensure nothing is missed.
Having studied your case fully and compiled all this information together, your Chiropractor will then form the most appropriate treatment plan aimed at rehabilitating your spinal motion, restoring your function and addressing your symptoms. These treatment plans are different for each patient and typically follow this rough structure:
Phase 1: Healing Phase- the first phase of care, where the healing process begins is typically focused on restoring motion to areas of the spine which your Chiropractor has determined are the most fixated/restricted or in the most amount of dysfunction. Specific at-home stretches/exercises may be provided to encourage and maintain optimal joint motion between each of your Chiropractic adjustments. This first phase of care is typically the most intensive phase of care, lasting from 4 to 8 weeks and with adjustments 1 to 3 times per week. The exact frequency and length of the first phase are determined on a case-by-case basis and personalised to your care plan.
Phase 2: Retain and stabilise- following a review and successful completion of the first phase of care, you will then move into the second phase, which is focused on increasing strength and stability to your spine, most importantly the areas which have needed the most amount of work during the first phase, or the areas which are the weakest in your spine and core. To complement the stretches/exercises in the first phase, your Chiropractor will often recommend various strengthening exercises to help increase muscular tone, strength and stability throughout your body. This second phase of care is typically at a lesser frequency of adjustments, lasting from 4 to 8 weeks and with adjustments 1 time per week. The exact frequency and length of the second phase are determined by how you have responded to the first phase of care and personalised to your care plan.
Phase 3: Maintaining- by the end of the second phase of care and following a final review, we would expect most patients to have their symptoms under control, experience increased flexibility, improved ability, feel stronger and more stable, and overall experience higher levels of well-being. The third phase of care is different for everyone, we typically have two directions from this point; some patients will be discharged at this stage, with either your chiropractor or you are feeling like they have achieved everything you wanted. For those not continuing treatment, we still suggest a continuation of regular stretching and strengthening exercises to maintain your progress. In some cases, a maintenance schedule of care can be recommended, aimed at maintaining your spinal motion and alignment over a longer period. This can be important in cases where we have found evidence of joint degeneration, as these areas can be prone to stiffening and becoming dysfunctional far quicker, and can be harder to self-manage through only stretches and exercises. At the end of your second phase of care, your Chiropractor will consult with you on all options, allowing you to make an informed decision on the best path forwards for yourself.
